Some of the questions we frequently get asked.
Q – Where are you located?
A – Our studio is located in Buffalo NY.
Q – Do you do on location shoots?
A – Yes we do. We can bring a mobile studio to your location anywhere in the Continental US. We do charge a travel fee that depend on how long it will take for us to drive there and back.
Q – Do you offer group discounts?
A – Contact me with details of your group and usage requirements and we can put together custom pricing.
Q – How long before I receive my martial arts portrait?
A – In most cases you should receive your martial arts portrait within 3 to 4 weeks. December can get busy with all the holidays, so we suggest booking early.
Q – When is your studio open?
A – As we live in Buffalo and we’ve been know to get a “Little Snow” from time to time, the studio is closed from mid December through the end of March. We usually are open April 1st through December 15th. We can do location shoots year round however we do not travel outside of WNY during the winter.
Q – Do I have a choice of backgrounds?
A – Yes. We can do a variety of backgrounds. Most of the “Master” series have a personalized background that we try to match to each subject’s personal energy. So someone who is a high energy personality might have a more electric or fiery feel, someone more the calm, passive energy type would see a cooler, more Zen like background. We can change them up if desired, and can also use a more traditional location background such as a cage, ring, or training floor if that is preferred.
Q – How long have you been doing this?
A – Bob started photography in the 1990’s as a hobby while Susan began in 2003.
Q – Bob, What is your inspiration?
A – My inspiration for the “Masters” portraits is old school, classic portraiture. My goal is that while styles change over time, I want to create a portrait that you can enjoy for years to come. Something that 10 or 20 years from now still brings a good feeling to those who look at it.
Q – How do you do your martial arts portraits? What is the experience like?
A – Good portraits start with proper lighting, proper exposure, and a photographer’s experience. Before we shoot we will discuss your needs. Once we know what you’re looking for, we schedule a date and you pay the portrait session fee to lock in the date. On the day of your session, we go over things again, then run through several poses until we find one that you like. We will reshoot until we lock it down so you’re happy with it. Once your images are picked, we work on them in Adobe Photoshop to clean them up and process them accordingly.
Q – Who does your printing?
A – Hubbard Photography uses only professional level print labs. Our preferred lab is Millers, who are the people behind the popular MPix photo print site. Millers is the largest professional lab organization in the United States, with a 44,000-square-foot facility in Columbia, Missouri and an 88,000-square-foot facility in Pittsburg, Kansas. We also use several other pro labs depending on what products you are looking for.
Q – What equipment do you use?
A – We currently shoot with a Canon DSLR’s, Canon, Sigma and Tameron lenses, Canon Speedlights and Alien Bee lighting.
Q – Are you insured?
A – Yes. We carry full insurance coverage.
Q – Do you belong to any professional groups?
A – Yes. We are both members of the PPA – Professional Photographers of America. With more than 22,000 members in 64 countries worldwide, Professional Photographers of America is the largest, non-profit trade association for professional photographers in the world.
